Outlandish STORIES... the background:

Local libraries are notorious for rigidly following the guidelines and advice offered by the American Library Association--an organization which promotes itself as being the "keeper and protector" of first amendment rights. Their excesses and failures to respond to the demands of the local public need to be exposed.

The current battle in this regard has to do with protecting patrons from incidental exposure to pornography on public library computers. Even though children or youth computers may be protected, a casual walk through the adult section may bring undesired (or even shocking) results. Someone has said, "Can't the public protest to the individual library/librarian rather than requiring action from congress or state legislatures?" The answer is, "NO". The autocratic library directors, boards, and librarians of many libraries have NOT listened. That's why we must pursue legislated internet filtering.
