From a meeting for the public on March 14, 2004, entitled "Providing Internet Access Responsibly", presented by John Opgaard of the Topeka Shawnee County (KS) Public Library.
During the "question and answer" time, an off-duty police officer who stood at the back and who works security for the library made several comments, the thrust of them being that parents need to attend the library with their children. He spoke of how there are known pedophiles who frequent the library and how they (staff and security) have to steer them away from the child section... [which means the pedophiles are still moving around the building, looking for opportunity!!] It appears that the library really is NOT a safe place for parents to leave their children.
